Indiana Veterans Home (IVH) benefits from Vettes for Vets Event 2021.
Eleven Corvette clubs and independents from Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Missouri were excited to get back on the road with their donations to the 9th annual event in West Lafayette. As pandemic’s restrictions eased, the car show and presentations were back on the schedule. IVH provided the protocols for protecting residents coming out to see the cars. U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps provided the honor guard for the presentation of the wreath, and two volunteers from the IN Army/National Guard led the visiting clubs over to the Indiana Veterans Home. Star City Corvettes of Lafayette and Lafayette Corvette Club staged the visiting clubs at the Tippecanoe Amphitheater which included free hot dogs, chips and water from our sponsor, Christi Hubler Chevrolet of Crawfordsville. Over $11,000.00 was donated as well as donations of goods. We are very thankful for all that attended and their continuing generosity. We look forward to our 10th Annual Vettes for Vets on May 7, 2022.
Two spontaneous donations stood out. A local business owner driving by handed $500 cash to our volunteer and a boy on his bike riding by the Amphitheater. At the entrance he talked with Bob Devault's family, asked what was going on? could anyone donate? then he took the $20 he had in his pocket and asked if it would be ok to give that?
There is no selfie, no Facebook post, we don’t know either donor's name or any details about them - just the knowledge of a young man & business man who understood how important it is to REMEMBER OUR VETERANS.
In addition to the many regional Corvette clubs participation and help, we are fortunate to have a sponsor dedicated to the "Vettes for Vets" and helping our veterans
We get tremendous participation from Corvette owners supporting veterans as well as enthusiasts and social clubs from all over Indiana and neighboring states in the Vettes for Vets program.
Much of the funds that we raise throughout the year goes toward the Vettes for Vets program.
We have had as many as 200+ Corvettes and Corvette owners supporting veterans at our annual May "Vettes for Vets" event in Lafayette
During our Vettes for Vets event, the enjoyment that the Veterans receive from seeing the cars, talking to the owners and the donations that are derived from the event is immeasurable.
In addition to our annual May event, we travel all over the state to other club's Veterans events as well as to surrounding states including Iowa, Illinois, Michigan and other areas.
